Others feel that racial profiling is a valid and effective law enforcement tactic, and that in today's atmosphere of heightened security, racial profiling is not only acceptable, but also necessary. 41.541 Slavery and Emancipation During the Civil War.
This paper discusses the issues of slavery and emancipation during the heart of the Civil War. It was only natural, then, that black men felt the call to military service. From the onset of the war, free black men rushed to enlist in U.S. military units, but were turned away because of a Federal law dating from 1792 that barred Negroes from bearing arms for the U.S. army. In Boston, disappointed would-be volunteers met, passing a resolution requesting that the Government modify its laws to permit their enlistment. The eventual inclusion of black soldiers in the Union Army, would have an immense impact on the outcome of the war, and proved a giant step in the advancement of black Americans overall.

42.632 Affirmative action.
Affirmative action works when there is an issue of people's color, race and ethnicity. Affirmative action comes to the rescue of those who were previously excluded from jobs or denied educational opportunities. When these policies received executive branch and judicial support, vast numbers of people of color, white women and men have gained access they would not contrarily have had. This advancement has led to very real alterations. Affirmative action programs have not dislodged racism, nor have they always been readied without issues. The implementation of affirmative action was America's foremost honest endeavor at resolving a problem, it had formerly chosen to overlook. Yet, to really understand the significance of affirmative action, one must look at America's past discrimination to see why, at this point in history, we must become more color conscious.
